Background

For centuries, natives of the Spanish island of Mallorca wore metallic bracelets that they claimed had therapeutic powers, giving them energy, reducing pain, and making them feel better generally. In the early 1970s, Dr. Manuel L. Polo, a chiropractor from the island, began investigating these claims and discovered that combinations of certain metals did produce the beneficial effects claimed by the islanders. He concluded that the metals helped to balance the body’s electromagnetic fields. After his investigation, Dr. Polo devised a bracelet that improved upon the traditional design.

In essence, Dr. Polo’s bracelet helped to equalize the body’s Yin and Yang forces, its negative ions and positive ions. It had much the same effect as acupuncture.

Another Mallorcan, Ignacio S. Alvarez, made further improvements and began marketing his therapeutic bracelets. Eventually, Alvarez built his business into an international company, Bio-Ray, S.A., which manufactures Q-Ray Bracelets, the only authentic ionizing bracelets.
